My Story

For most of my thirties, I was running on empty. Between working night shifts as a registered nurse and raising five kids, sleep felt like something that happened to other people. I knew all the clinical facts about sleep deprivation — I watched it slow patient recoveries every week — but I could not fix my own.

It was not until my youngest was two and I hit a wall — dizzy spells, brain fog so thick I could not remember patients names mid-sentence, and a short fuse that scared me — that I finally decided to take my own health as seriously as I took theirs.

What I Learned

I went back to school. Got certified in sleep health coaching through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, then trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). What I found changed everything: most sleep problems are not medical emergencies. They are behavioral and environmental patterns — and with the right adjustments, they are almost always fixable.

I stopped waking at 3am. I started falling asleep within 20 minutes. The changes were modest — a consistent wake time, a real wind-down routine, a few tweaks to my environment — but the results compounded fast.

Why I Started This Blog

Most sleep advice online is either too clinical or too fluffy. Nobody is writing for the exhausted mom who has 11 minutes to read something before she collapses. That is who I am writing for — because that is who I was.

Sleep Better Tips exists to give busy women (and anyone running on fumes) practical, science-backed strategies that actually work in a real, chaotic life. No expensive gadgets. No two-hour morning routines. Just the stuff that moves the needle.

Life Outside Work

When I am not researching sleep science or writing, I am wrangling my five kids (ages 4–14), trying to keep a vegetable garden alive, and logging early morning runs before the house wakes up. I live with my husband and our very loud, very sleep-disrupting golden retriever in the Pacific Northwest.

I believe in small, consistent changes. And I believe everyone — no matter how busy — deserves to wake up feeling rested.
